SKSC Back in Action: Spartan Start Up Write Up

Our Surrey Knights swimmers were out in Chilliwack for the Spartan Start Up for the first meet of the season.  This quick 1 day meet is a great way for the swimmers to dip their toes back into racing and for coaches to assess what areas to work on for their swimmers.  We had 98 swimmers make the trek out from most of our competitive groups.  A big thank you for all the families who made the commitment and hopefully took advantage of the beautiful weather and great gas prices on the way home!

Especially for our more experienced competitive swimmers, skills, execution of race plans and effort were the primary focus this early in the season, focussing on the process versus overall times.  Despite being early in the season, our swimmers still saw 230 personal bests!  Congratulations to Ryan L for reaching his first 12&U provincial time in the 100BK!

While there were a lot of great performances over the weekend, a few stand out swims:

• First Canadian meets for Jannik and Celia!  Welcome!
• Dwayne S broke 1min in the 100FR for the first time!
• Matthew S had a fantastic 50FR executing race plan well
• Mason attacked his 200IM taking it out bravely through the first half
• Sabella just shy of her first divisional in the 12&U 100BK showing off her hard work on her underwaters in all races.
• Joanne wowed Coach Reg with her amazing tempo in the 100BK
• Aliah L at her first race at the LMR level had her goggles fall off and choked on water but that didn’t stop her from finishing her 100FR with a great race
• LMR 10 made it through the weekend with only 1 DQ with many swimmers attending their first sanctioned meet ever, including no DQs on breaststroke!

Next up for our Knights, splitting up between VPSC, PSW and the WDSC LMR through October.  Great job Knights!
